students the best ways to use chalk and oil pastel, watercolor,
colored pencils and markers. Wonderful art will be brought home for

Languages
LASER hosts
before school language classes in Spanish, French,
Italian, Chinese, and with the new addition Korean
with instruction
done by The Purple
School. The instructors from The Purple
School use a variety of enjoyable
activities such as games, songs and stories to teach
vocabulary. These classes are available
to students in grades K-5 at both beginner and
intermediate
levels.

Chess
Club
Beginning,
intermediate, and advanced classes are hosted after school by
LASER with instruction done
by Chess4Life
. These
classes are available for students in grades 1-5. The
school year will consist of
learning the strategies behind the game of chess and
working toward competing in local chess
tournaments, but most of all its about having
fun.

Drama Club
LASER hosts after school
theater performance classes with instruction done
by Stone Soup
Theatre.
Classes will be available
for two different age groups, K-2nd and 3rd-5th
grades.
The classes will culminate
in a performance offered to parents, friends, and other
family members at the end of each
session.

Laurelhurst Children's
Choir
Choir is offered
for students in grades 1st-5th after school from our new
choir teacher, Kyra Settle.
A graduate of Columbia
University, Ms. Settle has taught privately for the past
eight years. Ms. Settle is the choir teacher at Wedgewood
Elementary and has previously accompanied the Laurelhurst
choir at the Spring 2010 concert.
Over the course of the
semester, the students will work on developing songs for
an end-of-the-year performance with the string

Jewelry Making with
Jaicee Designs
In our jewelry and bead work
class, the students will be making custom-made earrings,
necklaces and bracelets. We will be using several different
mediums including, but not limited to silver, gold-plated,
elastic, glass, and cording. Each student will be able to
choose the beads they would like to use and the color scheme of
the project.

Lego
Camp
LASER hosts
Play-Well's Engineering Fundamentals with
LEGO®class. Students take on real-life engineering
challenges that explore concepts in physics, architecture,
mechanical and structural engineering with over 100,000 pieces
of LEGO® material. Designed by engineers, the curriculum
challenges both new and returning students to reach the next
level of engineering comprehension, all while having
fun. Available for children in grades
k-5th.

Laurelhurst Children's String Ensemble-New
Class!!
Bradley Smith will lead an
ensemble of string instrument players in grades 1 to
5. For the past 11
years, Mr. Smith has been the orchestra teacher at Eckstein
Middle School, which has been the top orchestra program in the
Pacific Northwest for the past five
years.

in Laurelhurst Elementary at a fraction of the cost for
